The biggest surprise of the latest console wars has been the addition of Nintendo into the realm of competitors. The Wii has outstanding sales and demand which is something Nintendo has not seen in almost a decade.

With the PS3 struggling and many game makers having difficult dealing with or affording to developing games for SONY the guys at Nintendo decided it was time for them to start opening up their system to 3rd party and developing game manufacturers.

It's not hard to created a budget between $5-15 million for making a game for the PS3. Nintendo sells the financial aspect of the business to developers in that for one game on the PS3 they can work 5-6 titles from Nintendo.

The XBox, plagued with hardware problems, and the Wii both have outsold the PS3 by millions of units in the U.S. The two biggest problems with the PS3 have been its price, at around $600, and its lack of original games. [ ...more ]

Sales of the PS3 are in the shitter and the XBox 360 is holding pretty good. The best platform is the Wii which is kicking the PS3's ass in sales. The good news for PS3 fans is that sales of the system finally beat the Game Boy Advance last month. Wow! What a milestone.

That said, the biggest drawback to the next generation of game systems is a lack of the kick-ass game that people can't live without.

Sure to be the next big one after the Halo sequel is the Grand Theft Auto IV (GTA IV) sequel which takes the player back to Liberty City. Security Scare As Man Jumps Into Popemobile

A man tried to jump into the Pope Benedict XVI’s popemobile today, but was quickly overpowered by bodyguards and hauled to the ground.

The incident, which immediately recalled the attempted assassination of Pope John Paul II in 1981, occurred at the beginning of the Pope's weekly general audience in St Peter's Square in the Vatican. Pope Benedict did not seem to notice the man and continued his audience as usual.

A Vatican official said the man, who was wearing a pink t-shirt, black shorts, a cap and sunglasses, managed to reach the back of the Pope's open-topped vehicle before the pontiff's team of eight guards wrestled him to the ground. He is being questioned by Vatican police.

'Battlestar Galactica' To End Next Season

Big budget series and cable TV stations usually don't mix. But hand it to the producers of 'Battlestar Galactica' for getting a lot of miles out of their remake of the sci-fi classic. Reports from the producers angle to next season being the last and that's probably a wise decision.

The good part of this is that they can go out on a high note. Ratings have dropped but the show is still popular. If they leave next season, which won't start till 2008, then they have a chance for fans who have left the show to get caught up and allow for a huge promo push to make their last season their best and most popular. The problem with a lot of Sci-fi based shows is that after they get popular they seem to hang on too long and turn to crap. You know the ones. We're proud of the series and what it has done and we look forward to the DVD sets and possible spin off in the future. [ ... more ]

Sylvester Stallone is back as Rambo in a bloody way with the simply titled JOHN RAMBO. We're liking this 3.5 min clip of the new movie, slated to open next year, because it doesn't hold back on the punches. The footage we have for you is something that Sly put together to show distributors and folks at Cannes and dropped off to the cool people at "Ain't It Cool News." There's a lot of blood in this clip. There's a decapitation and some poor dude gets the close range business end of a big-ass machine gun. Let's just say there's some blood.

Unlike the new Die Hard sequel which is aiming for a teenie-bopper audience with a PG-13 rating, Stallone looks to be keeping to what a good action film should be. An R-rating. Rambo is an angry killing machine and he doesn't look like old age has slowed him down too much.

Robert Rodriguez* took a hit on the chin with the financial turd that was "The Grindhouse." We're both still a little upset the movie didn't hit with audiences because we love Robert Rodriguez and think it was a cool movie and premise. We guess it just wasn't in the cards.

Well, Robert Rodriguez is in talks with studios over the much talked about "Land of the Lost" (which we think at this rate will not get made within the next 10 years) and a live-action "Jetsons."

Stupid rules prohibit their collaboration for some reason and in protest Rodriguez left. It's rare but not uncommon. George Lucas did the same thing way back when. That kinda worked out for him...

One of our favorite actors, Tim Roth (Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction) , is in negotiations to play a bad dude in the new Incredible Hulk flick. By now you're wondering why remake that piece of shit? Well, it turns out comic book adaptations for movie can turn a buck (Who knew!?!) and as bad as Ang Lee's adaptation of the The Hulk was (and it was bad!) the studio sees green in another way and want to try to cash in on the franchise. No word if this version will have giant, mutant poodles in it, but God, we hope not!

Begin the overhaul. Or as we say it, the way it should of been done the first time. Roth joins Edward Norton (Fight Club -best movie ever!!!) and Liv Tyler (being Steve Tyler's kid) in the Louis Leterrier-directed drama, which is being financed by Marvel Studios and distributed by Universal Pictures on June 13, 2008. That's an interesting cast so far and we're definitely interested in seeing if Louis Leterrier (The Transporter I & II) can pull it off. With Norton and Roth in your corner, it'll be hard to make them look bad.

Most people have a channel on their cable system they've probably never watched. It's called the "Travel Channel" and it started out kinda like it sounded with tourist shows and forgettable destination programs. But, over the years they've gotten some neat original programming such as "No Reservations" and "Bizarre Foods, with Chef Andrew Zimmern."

Taking a look at one of our favorite shows, "Bizarre Foods," we are introduced to the human garbage disposal of Andrew Zimmern. He's a pale white dude with a bald head and a gut, which makes him stand out in the locales he visits. However, he knows his food. And, he's a good personality with great charisma.

Chef Andrew Zimmern travels the world, eating the most unusual foods he can find. Chef Andrew tastes it all, amidst some of the most picturesque settings in the world. And we mean all! He eats a lot of things people shouldn't be eating. He's also an honored chef and food critic who takes his expertise on the road to not only find and eat the most unusual foods but also to give a quick review of the tastes and smells associated with each dish.

For instance, in the Philippines there is a food which is ducks eggs that are steamed. However, unlike hard boiled eggs, these eggs are fertilized and have an embryo inside, which is just part of the dish. Andrew cracks it open to see a ball of baby duck with small legs and wings before taking a chunk out. His review is good, describing the basic taste as a hard-boiled egg x's 7 in taste with a hint of smokey foul. Mmmmm. Yummy!.

That's one of the mild ones for the show. He's stir fried some bats, eaten beating frogs hearts and turtle soup, baby chickens deep fried, and a variety of grubs and animal parts that would make "Fear Factor" look lame.

If you get a chance check out the episode in Morocco where Andrew takes on the mystery meat. Some kind of animal, a goat we think, is covered in fat and it sits in a large clay pot for 3 days. Then the meat is pulled out and cut up. To sum up it tastes like rotten, fermented meat and looks like it, too. But, our good pal Andrew still takes a few bites with his omelet.

Talk about petty. British Airways has decided to censor Richard Branson, the Billionaire, from the James Bond film, "Casino Royale," and not for sex or violence. BA decided that airline rival Virgin Airway and its owner, Richard Branson, were not suitable for its passengers viewings.

In a scene from "Casino Royale," Branson has a cameo as a passenger in the airport, in the first 1/3 of film, when Bond is chasing a would-be bomber through security. Walking in front of the secret agent is none other than Virgin Air boss Richard Branson. Don't blink, you'll miss it.

However, BA took it one step further and decided to censor the tail wing of a Virgin Air jet taking off in the background as Bond chases down the criminal.

Sony Pictures, the distributor of the summer movie Spider-man 3, premiered the flick early in Japan to help capture the overseas market, a huge chunk of profits, and to help repolish their name brand. Sony has taken some hits with the mildly successful PlayStation 3 and Blu-Ray Hi-Def DVD system.

While the PS3 needs time to grow into its skin, there's no doubt Nintendo kick their ass in the holiday season with the untouchable Wii. You still can't find Wii's here but the retailers are stocked up on the $600 PS3, not a sign you want to see if your Sony. The European release of the PS3 met with mixed reviews with watered down specs for the unit. Add in the Blu-Ray DVD format war with HD-DVD (experts say HD-DVD will win) and you might be second guessing that huge investment for a gaming console.

Back to Spider-man 3. The early reviews from Japan are starting to pour in as the Internet gears up for the release of the film in a couple of weeks in the States. While some reviews see it as a disappointment, others claim you're not gonna be left hanging.

Time for the Top 10 Chessiest Movie Moments. Ahhh...we love these kind of lists. The most important thing for a movie, in our opinion, is to be able to hold up after 10 years. Granted, we enjoy cheesy 80's movies and kung-fu, but there's just something about Top Gun's aviator sunglasses and "Wingman" quote.

Well, here's another site called Show Stash that offers bootleg movies on the Internet. Right now you can grab the '300' in about 6 different parts, but it looks like they are all there. Battlestar Galactica, Simpson's, and a bunch of TV shows, series, and movies. As usual, all this stuff is hosted on other sites like Dailymotion and just gathered and linked by the dude.

It's a little hard to keep up with John McClane in his newest Die Hard film. In the U.S. it seems they are sticking to the title "Live Free or Die Hard" which is just a little too cheesy for us. It is what it is and there's no hiding it's Die Hard 4. Don't get clever. Just call it that. Anyway, internationally it's being called Die Hard 4.0. A little better, but the version number seems a little outdated. That would've been real cool in 1999.

Anyway, if memory serves us right, the new Die Hard was going to open July 4th weekend, or thereabouts. It's now bumped up to June 29th no doubt due to the huge response of the Transformers which was scheduled for that date, also.

For Die Hard, the first U.S. trailer looked weak but for being a teaser we can accept that. The second, international trailer looked great with such FX as blowing up the U.S. Capital. Now, a third U.S. trailer has popped up, without the Capital blowing up, and looks just a little over the top.

There's now a jet plane with Harrier capabilities to fly around the bridges of N.Y. They should have skipped that and put more buildings blowing up. That's what John McClane's known for. Oh, and yes, that is Kevin Smith (Clerks, Mallrats) at the end of the Die Hard trailer as a hacker.

While we're still on the fence about Die Hard 4, there's no doubt that the Transformers keeps looking better and better. The new trailers out show the machines actually transforming. We're sad the sound FX from the cartoon that happened when they transformed is out. Wha-wha-wha. Hard to duplicate in type.

Sony Pictures Classics has acquired North American distribution rights to Francis Ford Coppola's "Youth Without Youth," the director's first film since 1997's "The Rainmaker." A late fall release is planned.

Coppola could use a resurgence about now. His talents are being well applied to the wine industry. Seriously, if you like a great red check out his Black Diamond labels. Anyway, the film shot in Romania for 18 months and now looks to be headed toward the big screen.

The Departed and Casino Royale led the Internet driven Golden Schmoes Awards, presented by our pals at JoBlo (no, he's not a porn actor) and voted on by fellow Schmoes. The Departed won favorite movie of the year while Little Man took away Worst Movie. If the Schmoes are any indication on how the Academy Awards will turn out, and they're not, then look for Martin Scorsese to sweep up big.

DIE HARD 4.0 - NEW TRAILER

Well, faith has been restored to the Die Hard franchise with the new International Trailer for the film. The first one, rushed out a few months back, didn't really sell the movie much to Die Hard fans. However, it was choppy and not much was really revealed then and the addition of some kick-ass shit blowing up, including the White House for Christ's sake, makes up for the first trailer and is sure to win back a lot of fans.

Note that the title has changed from "Live free or Die Hard" on the first trailer to "Die Hard 4.0" for this international trailer. No word yet if it's a sweeping change to the title or just for overseas. Check this JoBlo Movies link for the international trailer.
